Our Review: BRIGHTLINES 54″ Roof Rack Crossbars – Sturdy But Noisy?

We recently tested the BRIGHTLINES All Black Heavy Duty crossbars on our SUV for a weekend camping trip. With their impressive 220 lbs weight capacity, these wing-shaped racks provided ample support for our kayaks and gear. Installation was straightforward, taking about 30 minutes to secure them to our raised roof rails.

The all-black finish gives these crossbars a sleek appearance that complemented our vehicle nicely. During our 200-mile journey, they remained firmly in place without any shifting or wobbling. However, we did notice considerable wind noise at highway speeds, particularly above 60 mph.

For the price point, these crossbars deliver excellent value with their universal compatibility and robust construction. While the wind noise is definitely noticeable, the trade-off might be worth it if you need reliable, heavy-duty roof racks for outdoor adventures.

We’ve Tested the KINGGERI Jeep Compass Roof Rack: Sturdy but Flawed

The aluminum construction delivers on its heavy-duty promise, easily supporting our kayaks and camping gear without sagging. Installation was relatively straightforward, taking us about 45 minutes with the included hardware.

However, we did notice some concerning flaws. Wind noise becomes noticeable above 60mph, despite the aerodynamic design claims. More troubling was the slight paint rubbing we discovered after our first long trip. The rubber gaskets could definitely use improvement.

For the price point, the 300lb capacity is impressive, and the crossbars’ versatility worked well with our existing gear attachments. If you’re willing to make some minor modifications to prevent paint wear, this rack offers good value despite its imperfections.
