We Put the CURT 48″ Cargo Carrier to the Ultimate Test

We recently got our hands on the CURT 18110 cargo carrier, and let us tell you, this 48 x 20-inch tray doesn’t disappoint. With a solid 300-pound capacity, it easily handled our weekend camping gear and holiday road trip luggage. The versatile design features both 1-1/4 and 2-inch shanks, making it compatible with practically any vehicle in our fleet.

What really impressed us was the carbide black powder coat finish – after several rainy trips and some off-road adventures, it still looks great with minimal signs of wear. The raised sides are a thoughtful touch, preventing smaller items from sliding off during travel. Installation took us less than 10 minutes without any special tools.

For anyone needing extra storage space without committing to a roof rack system, this hitch-mounted carrier offers an excellent balance of durability, convenience, and value.

The included anti-slip mat provided extra security, while the eight reinforced straps and six door hooks ensured the bag stayed firmly in place even at highway speeds.

The added security lock gave us peace of mind when making stops along our route. Despite some initial concerns about wind noise, we found it to be minimal compared to hard-shell carriers we’ve tested previously.
