Roof rack questions
The short answers to what people ask most when choosing a roof rack.
Will a roof rack fit my vehicle?
It depends on your roof. Bare roofs, flush rails, raised rails and fixed mounting points each need a different kind of rack. Check your roof type first, then confirm the fit guide for your exact make, model and year before you order.
What is the difference between dynamic and static weight capacity?
Dynamic capacity is how much the rack can carry while the vehicle is moving. Static capacity is what it can hold while parked, such as with a rooftop tent. Your vehicle also has its own roof load limit, which you can find in the owner's manual. Never exceed the lowest of the numbers.
Will a roof rack hurt my fuel economy?
It usually does, because it adds wind resistance. Aerodynamic crossbars tend to cost less than square bars, and removing the rack when you are not using it helps the most.
Why do some crossbars make wind noise?
Shape, spacing and speed all matter. Round and square bars can whistle at highway speeds, while aero-shaped bars and a wind fairing are designed to reduce the noise. Owner reviews are a good place to check how a specific rack sounds.
